Soli Deo Gloria Concert SeriesThe purpose of this series is to give glory to God, expression to accomplished artists God has gifted, and enjoyment to God's people through an annual series of concert performances in which Jesus Christ is preeminent. The name of the series, Soli Deo Gloria, is a Latin phrase meaning "to God alone be the glory." This phrase, an influential motto of the Protestant Reformation, is found on many of the musical manuscripts of the composer J. S. Bach (1685-1750), both sacred and secular works. Bach used this motto to tell the world that all of his art, both music written for the church and music written for other occasions, was intended to bring glory to God. That same philosophy, Soli Deo Gloria, is what guides the artists that perform in the series. The Session of First Presbyterian Church has approved the use of our Sanctuary and instruments for the Soli Deo Gloria (the glory of God alone) Concert Series. It is their desire that church members utilize the concert series as a means of outreach into our community and invite friends to the quality presentations that will be featured.
